You are Carbon in the Ocean

The great blue chasm of submarines and shark attacks. Carbon is plentiful here, living vibrantly in various forms.

Of the three places where carbon is stored--atmosphere, oceans, and land biosphere--more than 90% of the CO2 is found in the oceans. It exists as bicarbonate with carbonate ions acting as the link between carbon dioxide and bicarbonate. As concentrations of carbon dioxide increase the supply of carbonate ions becomes limited and so the oceans become less and less able to take up carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

CO2 + H2O = H2CO3 = HCO3- + H+ = CO32- + 2H

Carbon Dioxide + Water = Carbonic Acid = Bicarbonate + Hydrogen Ion = Carbonate + Hydrogen Ions

Choose PHOTOSYNTHESIS. Carbon is absorbed by Algae, kelp, and phytoplankton for photosynthesis just as plants do on land.

The ocean is a mysterious place, why not scoot around as phytoplankton and enjoy the scenery?

The process by which energy from the sun is converted into chemical bond energy in sugar.

6CO2 + 6H2O + photon = C6H12O6 + 6O2

Carbon Dioxide + Water + Light = Sugar + Oxygen

Choose DIFFUSION. Carbon returns to the atmosphere in warm water regions around the tropics through a process called outgassing. As oceans are becoming warmer, more carbon is being released into the atmosphere.

Its getting rather crowded in here, and those cold dark depths below are not looking too friendly. Lets soar high up in the clouds again. Life was warm, dry, and sunny up there. Screw all these fish.

The process by which things move from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration.

Rate of Change in Concentration = Difference in Concentration Between Two Regions
